Join us as we care for Our Kakaʻako at our annual Mālama ‘Āina Community Cleanup during Earth Month. The event provides an opportunity to gather, share kuleana to mālama ʻāina, and make a significant impact. Gather your ʻohana and friends to help keep Our Kaka‘ako beautiful!

Cleanup Checklist

Please come prepared for spending the morning outdoors! We recommend bringing:

Water in a reusable bottle

Reef-safe sunscreen

A hat

Sunglasses or protective eyewear

Event Schedule

8:30 a.m. – 8:50 a.m.
Check-In

  • Check-in at The Barn at SALT at the table with your assigned group color. You will receive your group color via email 1-2 days before the event. Colors will be marked on the pillars. During check-in, your group leader will provide you with a map, trash bag, and reusable gloves.
  • If you are bringing anyone who has not registered, please have them go to the registration table for assistance on the Keawe Street side of The Barn at SALT.

9:00 a.m. – 9:10 a.m.
Welcome and Safety Briefing

  • Learn about your kuleana during clean-up.

9:10 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Community Cleanup

  • Mālama Our Kakaʻako by cleaning up ʻōpala in the area. Please put any recyclable containers in a collection bag.
  • Please drop off all ʻōpala and recyclable containers at the Surfrider Foundation – O‘ahu Chapter and Our Kaka‘ako tents in Mother Waldron Park (corner of Cooke Street and Pohukaina Street) for weighing.
  • ʻŌpala drop-off is available between 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

11:00 a.m.
Supply Drop Off and Pick Up Bento

  • Head back to The Barn at SALT to drop off any borrowed cleanup supplies and pick up your complimentary bento.

Parking

FREE volunteer parking is available only at the SALT at Our Kaka‘ako parking garage (333 Keawe Street). Parking validation will be provided at event check-in.

Please note, standard parking rates will apply to all other Our Kaka‘ako parking garages (H Mart garage – 440 Keawe Street and The Shops at Keauhou Lane garage – 555 South Street). Event parking validation will not be offered.
